The Seeds of Native Health Annual Conference on Native American Nutrition is the only conference series in the world devoted to the food and nutrition of Indigenous Peoples. The inaugural conference, held in 2016, was a milestone event in the growing movement to restore indigenous health through traditional diets, foodways, and increasing access to healthier food. This event brought together more than 450 Native leaders, academics, and public health workers from 32 states, five countries, and dozens of tribes. Its growing audience is one that includes tribal officials, researchers, practitioners, funders and others, who come together to discuss the current state of Indigenous and academic scientific knowledge in relation to Native nutrition, food science, dietary health, and innovative areas of the given field. The Fourth Annual Conference set for September 2019 will focus on youth engagement, urban nutrition issues, and more. This conference is held in collaboration with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and University of Minnesota Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives Institute. It is located at the Mystic Lake Center in Prior Lake, Minnesota, and features a variety of different workshops, speakers, and opportunities to attend programming for the Native American Journalists Association's National Native Media Conference that is being held in conjunction with the 2019 event.
