Point of Contact: Andi Murphy
Toasted Sister podcast is hosted by Andi Murphy, a Navajo from Crownpoint, New Mexico, and full-time radio producer and freelance multimedia journalist. This podcast’s audience is intended to be one that is comprised of Native chefs and foodies wanting to learn about Indigenous cuisine, its origin, its future, and how it can be used to connect individuals to their culture and traditions. Toasted Sister Podcast took first place for general excellence in the professional division II in radio and podcasting at the Native American Journalists Association 2019 National Native Media Awards. Part of its purpose is to act as an innovative means through which the audience is educated on Indigenous foodways. It also helps listeners recapture traditional knowledge that was destroyed when indigenous foods were replaced with foods that are far from the people. Toasted Sister receives support from Koahnic Broadcast Corporation and is affiliated with Native Voice One. It can be accessed by through the Navajo Technical University’s KCZY radio station and on Rising Indigenous Voices Radio.
